SCOPE OF PRACTICE UPDATE FOR AEMT

National Scope of Practice Model Update - AEMT Update

In response to the change of the National Scope of Practice Model Update in 2019, re-affirmed in 2021, there is a significant educational shortfall in licensed AEMTs in the State of Tennessee whom graduated prior to these scope updates. Most notably, AEMT’s can now administer analgesics, antiemetics, and cardiac epinephrine. In order for a state licensed AEMT to perform under this new scope additional education is required unless they graduated from an approved educational program after Jan 1, 2023. See below for slide decks created by the Initial Education Committee in 2022 to address the gap in education to the new AEMT scope. These slides are provided to aid in educating the gap if a service desires to begin utilizing AEMT’s at the new scope. I/C’s can teach this content provided they have approved a state required Scope of Practice Train the Trainer session.1
