New Statewide Mental Health Curriculum for EMS Education
In response to the ever-increasing challenges surrounding mental health in EMS, the Tennessee EMS Board took decisive action during its June 16, 2025 meeting, unanimously approving a new Mental Health Curriculum to be incorporated into all initial EMS education programs for EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic students.
While the full curriculum is available below for immediate review and optional early implementation, all EMS education programs will be required to include this curriculum for any classes with a start date on or after July 1, 2026.
To support the successful integration of this important initiative, the Education Committee has developed several resources:
Instructor Workbook
PowerPoint Slide Deck
In addition, TEMSEA will be hosting a series of virtual meetings to assist program directors, instructors, and faculty with curriculum review, implementation strategies, and Q&A sessions. The schedule of available sessions between now and the end of 2025 is listed below. Please note: additional meeting dates will be announced beginning January 2026.
